I wonder if John Francis Wade, who is credited with the melody of 'Adeste Fideles' (aka O Come All Ye Faithful) could ever have imagined its alternative usage in British culture. On the occasions when I think of it at all, I seem to remember Wendy Richard singing it briefly during an episode of the 1970s children's TV parlour game Star Turn. But yes, that appropriation of the tune does seem to have died out in the past 25 years or so.

ReplyDeleteI love Thriller I've been plodding my way through the box set for about 5 years now. Is that the one with the haunted Roller?
ReplyDeletePossesion is super-spooky. And the sets and costumes are such a great snapshot of the seventies.
